"Beauty is truth, truth beauty,"—that is all
Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know.

John Keats

'Truth' is what every artist is trying to capture, whether it's the scribbles we do as a child, wild abstract compositions or figurative art. The essence is the same. The power of portraiture for me is largely to do with the process and the intention. Why do we often prefer a painting to a photograph, even though the photo may be more accurate? Maybe it's because when we commission a portrait we are making a statement of love for the subject. This love is relected back through the care and effort that the artist places in the painting. It's a collaboration.

In a world where so much is easy and mechanised there is something very powerful about hand crafted, personalised work. It reminds us of our humanity in a world where powerful forces seem intent on stripping it from us.

Having lived in various places, including amongst poverty in Nepal and five years in a Sudanes refugee camp, I feel extremely blessed to be living here in Sussex now. Every day I meet more wonderful neighbours who are trying to make sense of these turbulent times.

If you are interested in commissioning a piece of art give me a call  or send me an email. Normally I work from photographs and I can help in choosing the right one or occassionally I'll come out to you, to do a quick photo session.

I work in both oils and watercolour. Often with watercolour I will use a clay board that keeps the colours sitting on the surface. This gives a unique richness to a watercolour that is very hard to achieve on paper.

Most of my portraits are commissioned as gifts for anniversaries, weddings, birthdays, Christmas etc and I am happy to help with mounting and framing.

I offer 14 day returns for a full refund. I aim to dispatch all paintings within 1-3 days and UK shipping is FREE.
